NOTES: |
I always look forward to the latest issue of R/T and this one arrived at my door last week with another batch of well done articles. Apparently IPMS Canada is putting as much of its content on its web site as it is the magazine, so it means that the number of articles in R/T is not as many as in the past where we could count on about eight model building articles. However, what is being provided tends to me in a greater depth.
Once past the editorial and columns by the national director and others, we get into the articles.
The first article is three pages on both the US and British IPMS nationals. The photos here are of Canadian subjects as it would take more than a year's worth of pages to do even one of the two events. One page is devoted to the US event and two to the British.
We then have a three page article on the building of a WWII Canadian BCAP base diorama by Norm Sheppard. It is in 1/48 and quite nicely done.
Next is a five page article by Trish McNorgan on building the ancient Revell 1/32 Mosquito. To say that she put a lot of work into this one would be an understatement, but the result is a superlative model.
Ken Nesbitt provides a most timely article on how to decant paint from a rattle can. I've been one who doesn't like doing this as the propensity for a major disaster is high, but Ken's three page article shows a method that is easy to do and drastically reduces any issues.
A Vronka Glider is a well done scratchbuilding article by Gary Barling. It should encourage those who have never tried it to give it a go.
Vic Schuermann continues with his extensive build of the Revell Ventura with this four page article on gussying up the radio operator's compartment.
Finally, a most unusual article on the AMT 1/25 Payhauler Dump Truck. Barry Madden finishes out this edition with his well done build and offers some guidance on photography as well.
In all, a most welcome issue that is read in far too short a time, but well worth the work that has gone into it.
How do you get this great edition? Simply join IPMS Canada and trade money for magazines. It is well worth it.
