NOTES: |
The latest edition of Random Thoughts arrived on my doorstep last week and as usual, I tore into reading it. The editor is continuing to work on the format bit by bit and it certainly isn't the RT of a few years back. There are 36 pages of goodies, most of it in color, covering seven articles of a variety of subjects, though not surprisingly, most are aircraft.
Once past the editorial and the chapter stuff, there is a half page of reference sources for the Me-309 by Jim Morin.
The first article is a very nice build of the CMR Boeing 40 in 1/72 scale by Bernie Hengst. A very colorful model to say the least.
The next article is on a Fischer 1/32 Sea Fury T.20 done as an air racer. Ed Kinney has done a very nice job converting what is a very expensive kit into the racing version. His Alclad II finish is just superlative.
Evan Jones' build of the Silver Dart in 1/24 has to be my choice for the best article in with a lot of good articles. Evan pretty well scratch-built the entire aircraft and the results are incredible to say the least.
Almost on the same level is Pete Malauti's Hobbycraft 1/48 CF-105 Arrow. It is Hobbycraft pretty much in name only as Pete reworked or enhanced just about every part of the aircraft in making this masterpiece.
The next aircraft is Wing Commander RTP Davidson's Typhoon Ib using the 1/48 Hasegawa kit. Simon Hopkins did a goodly amount of research in getting this one right.
The armor kit in this edition is Gary Barling's very nicely done Legend 1/35 Centurion V. His build of this resin kit is very nicely done.
The last article is a teaser. Vic Scheuerman has part one of his build of a Grumman AS3 Avenger target tug. We'll have to wait for part 2 to see what else he does with the Hasegawa 1/72 kit.
Overall, another excellent edition and one that I know you'll find to be a great read.
