This is the first in a series called 'Squadrons' and it appears that these will all be e-books, something that is growing in popularity as folks get more and more electronic devices.
This one is a bit different from the unit books that have been done in that they take a type that has had limited use and cover the squadrons that have flown the aircraft. You get the same well done research as in the paper books along with a nice selection of period photographs of the aircraft in question.
This particular volume is on the Spitfire VI, the RAF's first high altitude Spitfire. Only about 100 aircraft were produced and while several units flew one or two examples, only 124 and 616 squadron were fully equipped with the type. 124 Squadron did rather well with the aircraft, but 616 Squadron had a rather dismal experience. Both units were later re-equipped and when the Spitfire VII came along, it was a much more capable aircraft for high altitude flight.
Overall, it is a superbly researched and presented book. It is also chock full of photographs of the Spit VI and the men who flew it. The addition of large color profiles really adds to it. Available in several formats. A book I found fascinating and one that is bound to be a valuable reference resource in the years to come.
