For their second title in the 'Allied Wings' series, the B-26 Marauder has been chosen. While many know of the aircraft from its exploits in the USAAF, few realize that the B-26A was operated by the RAF.

The vast majority of these planes were operated by 14 Squadron in the Mediterranean. While around 100 aircraft were delivered to the RAF, attrition through battle losses and accidents eventually caused the unit to replace their Marauders with Wellingtons late in 1944.

Initially, these planes were used as torpedo bombers and they gained success in this role. However, it also resulted in rather high losses so the type was mostly used in the standard bombing and reconnaissance role. So acute was the lack of aircraft that later in the types life, they were supplemented by war weary B-26Bs, intended for training use, though several were outfitted for combat and used in that role.

This book covers the complete history and operational used of the Marauder I with 14 Squadron. It includes all their successes against ground targets, shipping and even against Luftwaffe aircraft, where its speed was a major benefit.

A book that is a perfect reference as it includes information on all known planes by manufacturer's serial, RAF serial, and even includes the fate of other B-26A-1 aircraft. There is an air to air claim listing, a loss listing and maps of 14 Sq bases.  Included are a large number of superb period photos of the men and machines as well as excellent color profiles based on some of these images. A role of honor for the men who flew these aircraft and specific information on each of them is included.

Overall a book that is superb and one that any enthusiast or modeler who has an interest in the type must have on their shelves. I know you will be as pleased as I with this edition.
