Adding to their growing line of books especially for the scale modeler, Osprey has released this edition on painting and finishing techniques. The book covers a variety of subjects and skills that I know all of us will find of interest. One thing I have discovered over the years is that no matter how much we have learned, we can always pick up a new and interesting technique that may well be an improvement over what we have been doing for years. The real challenge comes not from reading about it, but actually getting around to trying it.

The book begins predictably by going through a listing of tools and materials, then continuing on with a bit on the types of finishes and color authenticity. The author then divides the rest of the bokk in to aircraft, armor and figures. The majority of the techniques shown are on model aircraft. No part of the painting and weathering process goes untouched as we are shown step by step how to perform the various techniques both inside and outside of the model. The same goes for the section on armor. A somewhat small but informative section is provided for painting figures. I have to say that I found the author's simple, but effective presentation to be quite convincing.

As always with this series, the book is full of clear, sharp color photos that do much to enhance each of the techniques shown. Basically, all one has to do is follow the photo guide to be able to duplicate these skills and that is really what makes this book so useful. It is one that I know you will find both interesting and informative.
