Number 57 in the Aces series, this book concentrates on those pilots who became aces flying the Hurricane after 1940. By 1941 the Hurricane was being replaced in UK based units by the more capable Spitfire. This meant that the opportunity to shoot down enemy planes in a Hurricane were diminishing, but not over as many pilots did have aerial successes flying the Hurricane during 1941.

It was overseas where most of the story now moves. This includes Malta, Greece, and the North African theater of operations. Initially against the Italians and then against the Luftwaffe, Hurricanes were perfect for these locations. Ruggedly built and easily maintained, the Hurricane was generally a good match against the opponents faced in these areas. That is, until the Luftwaffe arrived with their Bf-109Fs, when the Hurricane pilot found himself hard pressed to gain additional victories.

Other theaters are covered including both East and West Africa against the Italians and Vichy French. Syria where they also faced the Vichy French, and finally, the India and Burma area, against the Japanese. These final areas of conflict saw some pilots become successful against the enemy, but the time for the Hurricane as an air defense fighter were on the wane and most of these victories came while the Hurricane was undertaking fighter-bomber sorties.

As is typical of Osprey books, there are a lot of very good period photos of the men and their planes. This is further enhanced by excellent color profiles, making this an excellent reference for the modeler and enthusiast alike.
