Notes: E-book

This is another of Osprey's E-books and this time, it is on modeling soldiers of the SS during the Normady invasion. As I mentioned when reviewing the last similar book, these seem to be the coming thing for some people. I will admit to being old fashioned and prefer my books to be analog, especially as I spend so much time staring at a computer screen, but there is a growing demand for E-books and Osprey is accommodating that demand.

This particular book concentrates on some Dragon figures and is actually quite detailed as the author went to a great deal of trouble to modify and upgrade the figures that have been provided. Now how many readers will actually go through all of the effort of robbing bits from other kits, making new hands and uniform bits from putty (and I have to assume this is epoxy putty as the one part stuff just will not mold in this matter) is unknown, but the author takes us through the entire process.

Not only is figure modification and detailing part of the book, but so is painting. In fact, a goodly portion of the book is spent on painting the two figures detailed in the book, complete with the FSM 'empty paint brush' photos! There is some time spent on the diorama base and there is a very large section on similar figure kits, books on the subject and a bibliography. Also included are 'color chips' done in the usual four color printing that one finds in Osprey modeling books.

Those who have many of Osprey's modeling books will wonder at why only one major build. Well, it seems that this will be the norm for the modeling books on-line and frankly, considering how inexpensive these titles are, I think it is a great deal for the money.

If this sort of book interests you, I recommend visiting www.ospreypublishing.com and clicking on the 'EBOOKS STORE' button on the left side. There are a variety of titles in there, some of which you may well find interesting.

Thanks to Osprey Publishing for providing this one for review.
