Scale Model Handbook  #18 arrived in the mails the other day and it continues with their superlative award winning figure presentations. This one has a neat mixture of eight subjects. I found it interesting that half of these are WWI subjects and three of the four are aviation related.

The articles range from quite in depth explanations of what was done to achieve the look of the subject, while on the other side we have a few that are just a few pages long and provide basic info, such as the colors used for various parts of things. This provides a good mixture as there are times when we want a lot of info and others where we do not.

All eight subjects are shown on the cover and starting from the top left is a bust of 'Mick' Mannock in 180mm.

Next to it is the initial article in the book, the Roman Gladiator "Thraex". This one is 90mm

The mounted figure is Corporal Vincente Manzano, Dragoon Regiment 'Pavla' at Ontigola in 1809. This 75mm presentation is listed as scratch-built and is a rather extensive article.

The next WWI figure is this British Trench Raider in 75mm; a short article that just lists colors used.

Bottom row starts with a WWI pilot, Oswald Boelke. This 75mm figure is also a rather extensive article.

Not as extensive is the bust of Winston Churchill in 200mm.

Another Germany WWI pilot getting kitted out for a flight. This is 54mm.

Finally a Waffen SS AFV crewman from the last year of the war in 50mm.

As usual, the photos are superb and often will give a step by step on how the various effects were reached. As figure modelers are mostly painters, this sort of information is quite useful.
