It may well just be my perception of things, but it seems like there have been a number of books recently done on the Panzerwaffe of WWII. Interestingly, none of them have been exactly the same and so one has gotten several different angles on things. This book from Zenith Press covers just how the Panzerwaffe worked and how it evolved from the start of the war until the end.

This is the first book in their Order of Battle series and basically provides insight into the make-up of German armored units and how they were used in various campaigns. It starts with the pre-war make-up of this fighting force and then covers all the main areas of conflict in which the German Army participated.

We go from the Polish Campaign to France, the Balkans, North Africa, Eastern Front, Sicily and Italy, Normandy, and finally the Defense of Germany itself. Throughout each of these major sections are a plethora of maps, charts, and orders of battle. Often these are broken down even further if there are several armies participating in a campaign, such as we had in France and Russia. This is further enhanced with period photos of equipment and personalities.

Overall, an excellent insight to the make-up and use of the German tank forces during the greatest conflict the world has ever seen, and a book I know you will find useful and entertaining.

January 2008.
