NOTES: |
|
This issue of Mushroom Model Magazine is quite similar in layout as the one previously reviewed. There are a couple of differences of note. One is that the center pages are in full color. A nice addition. Secondly, I noted a few more images of kits in the kit review section than was there the last time. The rest of the magazine is the same high quality as vol 5/1.
In this issue:
Part 3 of the Gloster Gladiator. This part details those flown by the Irish Air Corps during WWII. There are several images of the aforementioned Gladiator in the article. One of them is rather pixilated, a problem that can crop up when using digital images. Again, there is an article on modeling an IAC Gladiator, this time using the Heller 1/72 kit. Alas, no image of the model. A subsection is devoted to a fellow who built a 1/12 model of the Gladiator. Good thing he isn't into doing B-29s!
Next is an article on doing a Tiger I tank. This one is complete with a number of photos of the kit in question including in-work photos.
A short story on aviation museums in Spain is the next article. Looks like they have some very interesting aircraft. A snippet that caught my attention is that some of the Spanish Civil War aircraft are painted with Republican markings on one side and Nationalist on the other!
An excellent article on Romanian Hurricanes takes up the center section of the magazine. This article includes images of a built up Hurricane I based on the Hasegawa kit. There are color three-views included in the article.
The final feature article is on the Hawker Nimrod of the 1930s. The short historical article includes a few photos of a surviving aircraft and a fine selection of three-view drawings of the aircraft.
The last 8 pages are devoted to kit reviews. These are all build-up reviews, which I find much more useful. Again, images are scarce, but there are more than in the last edition.
Once again, I found the
magazine to be thoroughly enjoyable and one in which I found every article of
interest. One kit review I found to be quite telling and I'll quote it in its
entirety:
North American P-51H, Model News kit # 72005, 1/72 Scale
"The problems with this kit started when I opened the box.........."
Richard Macer
Guess one really doesn't need to know much more than that!! Mushroom Model
Publications' motto is "Not taking serious modeling too seriously!".
One with which I strongly agree. Makes for a much more fun time! Again, this
issue is most recommended.
