Issue #5 of Luftwaffe Im Focus is now available and I'm glad that they have managed to stay alive. Often times a magazine will falter about this stage, to be lost in the dimness of time. I have many early issues of magazines you've never heard of that started out well, but didn't last more than a few issues. LIF appears to be on its way to sticking around and I'm glad they are.
This particular issue has the usual potpourri of articles covering all sorts of aspects of WWII. There are lots of interesting photos of Eastern Front 109s, some early 110 night fighters, a Stuka or two, and some period color photos for your enjoyment. I particularly liked the FW-190 of Uffz Handel that is highlighted as it not only has a yellow spinner, but the interior quarter of the prop is yellow. It also has red tips. Quite unusual for any Luftwaffe aircraft.
A nice photo series on Oblt. Max-Hellmuth Osterman's 109 is provided, though most of the images are of a rather impressive looking prang. Though not the last article in the issue, there is a good story with photos on the Ar-196s of 8./KG 100 operating in the Aegean Sea area.
Frankly, I look forward to each issue of Luftwaffe im Focus primarily because it is a fun read and adds some extra insight into the German side of the war experience.
