Backing up a bit in history, this Jagdwaffe volume covers the war in North Africa from the Luftwaffe's earliest forays in June of 1940 until June of 1942. As with other volumes, it is A4 format, hard card bound and 96 pages.

It has the usual combination of historical background, operational information, pilot stories and the excellent profiles, from which there will undoubtedly be decal sheets forthcoming!

Again, it is the 109 that is the main actor in this case, with the E and F models sharing about equal consideration. To me, the desert camo schemes are some of the least interesting that have been put on Luftwaffe planes. The vast majority were just tan over blue-grey, though there were the odd aircraft with mottles in green as shown on the cover aircraft.

What really comes to the forefront in the telling is the remarkable fluidity of the situation and the relatively small number of aircraft which were able to force the retreat of the Allies for most of this period. It also includes sections on operations against Malta during this period from units based in Sicily.

Nice additions to the book are a number of period color photos (many of which have been shown before but are nonetheless interesting) and a nice explanation on the camouflage and markings of the aircraft.

I'm probably starting to sound like a broken record about this, but this truly is an excellent series of books. It is one that should be on the shelves of those who are interested in the Luftwaffe and the Bf-109 and most highly recommended.
