This is book #20 in Kagero's 'Photosniper' series. These books are basically a 'Walk-around' with a short history on the type. Unlike others you may have seen, the edition is primarily photographs of preserved vehicles as well as drawings and profiles.

The book opens with a historical section covering the initial development of the Sd.Kfz 234 series from the earlier Sd.Kfz 231. The primary difference in the basic design being a more powerful  air-cooled diesel engine. Though looking quite similar to the 231 series, the 234 series was new from the wheels up. Many consider these as the finest armored car of WWII, with capabilities in rough terrain very close to that of tracked vehicles, yet able to reach 80 kph on open ground.

Matching the new design were four subtypes: the /1 with a 20mm turret similar to the Sd.Kfz 222, the /2 'Puma' with a 50mm gun, /3 with a short 75mm cannon as shown on the cover, and the final /4 with a 75mm Pak 40. Examples of the last two sub-types exist in various museums around the world and this is where most of the photographs come from.

As you'd expect from a walk-around book, there authors have managed to stick their lenses into every nook and cranny of extant vehicles to bring what has to be the best photo coverage of the type to date. Thanks to all these great detail shots, the modeler should be able to reproduce an excellent replica. The book also contains several excellent color profiles of different variants. These are the basis for a decal sheet in 1/72 and 1/35 that is included with the book. I couldn't begin to tell you what kits are available as military vehicles are not my forte, but I'm sure they are out there.

If your interest lies in the subject matter and you are looking for a modeler's reference on the type, then this is the book for you.
