I somehow missed volume one on the Ju-87, but if Kagero keeps with their usual format, then that one was on the development of the aircraft and its different variants. This volume goes into its operational history, starting with the first Luftwaffe units flying the Ju-87A and then going into the use during the Spanish Civil War. During that conflict the concept of the Stuka and its ability to assist ground troops was proven as the early A models and later the B-1 variant were quite successful.
The book then covers the opening phases of WWII with the invasion of Poland, operations in Norway, then the attacks in western Europe against the Dutch, Belgians and the French. Again in all these operations the Ju-87 was quite successful, mainly because there was German control of the air. The Stuka was also shown to be quite effective against shipping and in the Norway operations this was especially so.
Then there are operations against the British during the opening rounds of the Battle for Britain. Here, against determined defenses, the Ju-87 was shown to be an easy target once the escorting fighters were engaged. As a result, they were quickly pulled from further action against the British home islands aside from a few special strikes later on.
The book concludes with operations in the Balkans against Yugoslavia and Greece. Again, the Ju-87 was able to operate in an arena of air superiority and did an incredible job against ground forces and especially against the British Navy during evacuation operations. Early ops in North Africa are also covered.
In addition to an excellent history, the book has quality period photographs and a full set of drawings of the Ju-87 B-1/B-2/R-1/R-2 variants. In addition there are decals provided in the three major scales for five aircraft. These are shown in the superlative profile and three views that Kagero provides.
I should also mention that the book is in both Polish and English, showing none of the syntax problems that can come from translations that were present in the very early volumes. Modelers are cautioned that you can't make a B-1 from a B-2 kit as the prop, exhaust, and radiator were not the same size on these two variants.
It is a superb book that is both a fascinating read and a great reference. One that I can recommend to you without reservation.
