#15 in Kagero's unit histories is on the early war adventures of 112 Squadron; and adventures they were. The unit was quite mobile during the early days of the war with operations in Egypt, Sudan, Greece and finally back to North Africa where it settled for a while.
Its aircraft started with Gloster Gladiators, which it flew for a considerable time, augmented in some areas with a few Hurricanes. With these planes it fought in Egypt, moved to Greece and sent detachments to the Sudan before finally getting Kittyhawks (P-40B/Cs) and doing operations against the Afrika Corps.
As with all Kagero books, it starts with a personal exploit and then gets down to the day to day operations of the unit. These are interspersed with more personal accounts and gives one a very good feel for what the situation was like for these men during the crucial days of the early war.
Kagero also has the usual excellent profiles; this edition also having a second fold out page, which is always a nice treat. Speaking of treats, one of the draws of Kagero books is that you get something that a modeler can really use and in this case it is an etched fret of cockpit bits in both 1/72 and 1/48 by Part. No specific kit is given, but these bits are so generic to Gladiators that just about any one that is made will find these of use.
Also typical of Kagero books, it is a combination of Polish and Engish. There are a few syntax yuks, but nothing that makes the book unreadable. One of these days, Kagero will employ someone whose primary language is English to proof-read the English translation and that will make these books even more appealing, but for now, we have to bear with the rather odd use of the language. It is a book that I enjoyed reading and I'm sure that you will find it a plus to add to your bookshef.
