This is the first issue of a new German publication on the Luftwaffe. It is in the large A4 format, 40 pages and is chock full of photographs. In fact the real purpose in being for this magazine is to publish photos and stories related to the Luftwaffe during its existence from 1933-45.
The magazine is dual language in both German and English for the photo captions and the historical background that is given. Unlike many dual language publications, the English translation is perfect and without some of the more unusual syntax errors that can creep into publications that use this format.
OK so what's in the magazine. Well, since the focus is photos, that is basically what you get. Not only that, but there are photos in color and nearly all of them are previously unpublished. At least they were new to me and I've seen a LOT of Luftwaffe photos. The folks at In Focus have allowed me to publish two examples from the book and they are shown below.
As you can see, the images are very nice, crispy printed and of good quality. Not the sometimes fuzzy shots that one often finds in similar publications.
Since this is the first edition, I cannot really tell you if there is a standard format for the magazine. In this one there are sections on fighters, bombers, transports, gliders, pilots, unit badges, unusual photos and what is know as 'scenery' (such as the aftermath of an Allied air raid shown above and to the left.
My overall impression is quite positive. I very much like the images that are shown and also the fact that the editor doesn't make any pompous declarations of what the color schemes are in the photos that one finds in some other publications.
In Focus is looking for distributors of this fine magazine and if you'd be interested in tackling that challenge, please contact them via the link below. In the US, Eagle Editions carries this magazine in stock. If you are a Luftwaffe fan, then this magazine is one you should have and support.
Thanks to the fine folks at Im Focus/Start for the review copy
