This is the first book in a series on armor camouflage and markings. It picks the Spring and Summer of 1943 as its first subject area, a time during which the largest armor battle in history, Kursk, took place. It was also a time for several new German armored vehicles such as the Panther and the Ferdinand to name a few.

Despite being a book on camouflage, it is also very much a well done history book providing a necessarily abbreviated version of the rather complex military situation of the time in addition to a well done look at the Kursk battle and the events leading up to it.

The major draw of this book is not just the battle, but the images, the full color profiles and the smaller inset stories. These discuss a number of interesting features. Also part of the book are rather detailed sections on things like the changeover of colors from Panzer Grey to Tan, the addition of side skirts to German armor, the introduction of new types and many other interesting features that add value to this book. The images are all quite large and very nicely done.

I have to say that I learned quite a bit from this book. While by no means an expert, I am interested in the subject. This volume has added quite a bit to my knowledge bank about the time period and I found it to be a most interesting read. It is a book that I can highly recommend to any of you with an interest in the subject.
