Continuing with their fine photo books on the German Army in WWII, this particular one is on winter operations. The Germans were never really ready for the harshness of a continental winter. In Germany (as in most of western Europe), most of their weather is modified by the closeness of the Atlantic and surrounding seas as well as not having any mountains to block the prevailing winds. The result of this was that equipment as well as men suffered terribly from the subfreezing temperatures and strong winter winds.

This book covers the full range of subjects from the weapons to the clothing worn by the soldiers to the emplacements they made as the weather conditions changed. The photographs are well chosen and superbly printed, allowing us all a good look at how they coped with the winter weather.

This sort of book has been well received in the past and this one is no exception. A worthy reference for the historian, enthusiast and modeler alike, I'm sure you'll find things in here to inspire.
