This book continues with Concord's 'Armor at War' series with the second volume on Panzer Divisions. Like the other volume and most books in this series, it is pretty much a photo book with images taken mostly from the Bundesarchives and I'm just guessing on that as there are no photo acknowledgements on any of them.

As with other books in the series, there is a brief historical introduction. This volume's background covers from the invasion of the Soviet Union until the battle of Rostov in late 1941. Based on this, you can easily expect several more volumes in the series.

Though the historical background covers but six months, the photos in the book cover the entire war and in some cases, even before. Pretty much every piece of German armor, whether it be an armored car, halftrack or tank is covered with a photo or two. Most of the photos are well done, though I found some to be too dark for my liking. This was especially true when the photo caption pointed out some small feature that was basically invisible in the photograph. However, this isn't a walk-around book but one that shows the various vehicles in the field.

A real plus is that in the center of the book there are eight pages of full color profiles based on vehicles in some of the photos in the book. With two profiles per page, that provides a total of 16. These show the various camouflage schemes of various vehicles and should, along with the other images in the book, inspire a modeler to seek out and build a kit to match the subject. After all, that is mainly what these sorts of books are all about. They are eye candy and modeler inspiration references. It is a book that those with an interest in the subject will very much enjoy browsing through. A great reference and one that I know you will find interesting and inspiring.
