A subject that fascinates a goodly number of armor modelers and diorama builders is the German Army of WWII. Besides the seemingly bewildering number of vehicles, the German Army was not afraid to experiment with various camouflage schemes, especially in the last years of the war. They fought from Norway to the Sahara and from France to Russia so there were a goodly number of terrain types covered as well.

The book by Concord covers the vehicles used by German panzer divisions; from scout cars to the heavy Tiger II tanks as well as various half track vehicles. The short historical background goes from the start of the war until the end of hostilities in North Africa, leaving the Russian invasion for a latter edition. However, the photographs cover the full range of theaters in which these units participated.

The draw of these books are lots of well chosen and well printed photographs that show these vehicles in action. Information on the unit and snippets on camouflage and unit markings are provided with most of these. It continually surprises me how authors can pick out some of the markings on what looks to me like a mud or dust encrusted tank! Several of the tanks in photographs are chosen as representative for some excellent color profiles in the middle section of the book.

Overall, it is another superb addition to a growing line of excellent photo books by Concord. If you have any interest in German armor, or just want to learn a bit more, then this is a book for you.
