If you really think about it, there isn't a whole lot written about British armor. At least not when you compare it with the flood of information on German armor or even on the Sherman and its derivatives. Yet by the last year of the war, the British had finally developed some useful tanks in the form of the Cromwell and later model Churchills and had been greatly bolstered by the inclusion of various marks of Sherman and its derivitives.

The book by Concord covers the use of British armor in their battles from D-day to the Arnhem debacle, a period of early June to late September of 1944. It all starts out with a brief description of the rather bewildering number of units that were involved in the offensive. All the various Corps, Brigades and Regiments are listed and include information on the equipment they used and their eventual fate.

But the bulk of what is here are photographs. Lots of well chosen and well printed photographs that show these vehicles in action. Information on the unit and snippets on camouflage and unit markings are provided with most of these. It continually surprises me how authors can pick out some of the markings on what looks to me like a mud or dust encrusted tank! Several of the tanks in photographs are choses as representative for some excellent color profiles in the middle section of the book.

Overall, it is another superb addition to a growing line of excellent photo books by Concord. If you have any interest in British armor, or just want to learn a bit more, then this is a book for you.
