This is the second video from MasterClassModels I've seen and both include Floyd Werner as the demonstrating modeler. A very good choice as Floyd's demeanor is such that it makes the video interesting. His quiet and easily understood presentation makes it as if you are sitting down with a friend. Much better than some instructional videos I've seen where it seems as though one is attending a lecture.

The subject of this DVD is the application of Natural Metal Finishes and it features what many of us consider to be the best Metallic paint around, Alclad II. Floyd takes us through the build and paint process using a Tamiya 1/48 P-47D.

Initial part of the DVD is on proper kit preparation and construction. As Floyd points out, no good trying to produce a realistic metallic finish if the base model is not well built or well prepared. Metallics are quite unforgiving in their ability to show up even the tiniest of imperfections. One reason why a lot of modelers use it as an initial primer.

Once the model is ready, we are then shown just how easy it is to use Alclad II. One of the many things I  learned from the video is that I've been using too high an air pressure. With a lower pressure, a much better finish is produced. Not only that, but it is easy to do.

All the different shades are shown and used at one time or another. It includes how to use the highly polished versions like chrome. Car modelers will like that section as it will allow them to re-do the often poorly done factory chrome parts on their kits.

The video runs about 2 hours or so and I can honestly tell you that I found it to be engrossing. I learned a great deal from it and have been using some of the techniques shown with great success. It is a video that will remove the fear factor from painting metallic finishes and is one that you simply must see for yourself. I know you will find it a huge help. Most highly recommended.
