Notes: Two disc set

Once again, Master Class Modeling Videos has produced another 'how to' set. This time there are two discs and they cover several aspects of aircraft modeling that we all come to at one time or another; photo etch and resin and vacuformed  parts. Even those of us who have been doing this for a while will still have issues with these materials.

In this latest video, Floyd Werner Jr takes us through three of the most common aftermarket items that are used when upgrading or modifying a kit; Vacuformed canopies, resin sets and photo etch items. Each segment includes all the tools and materials that are needed to work with the materials.

The actual work itself is shown in close-up detail so that we can see exactly how each process goes along. What makes this set so appealing is the easy-going and friendly attitude that is provided in the commentary. It is as if a good friend is taking you through these steps. You get none of the 'lecture mode' that many often fall into for these how-tos. You are immediately relaxed and ready to learn.

Learn you will, for even those of us who have built many hundreds of models will pick something up from this video. One of my bug-a-boos has always been vac canopies. While I've developed something that works well for me, the method shown in this video seems to be even better to provide a quality finish. There are methods provided when working with other items that I know you will find useful.

After going through each of the major substances, so to speak, it is all brought together in building an Otaki F4U Corsair, not exactly the latest kit around, but one that is available and amenable to upgrading. As there is no cockpit set for this kit, one for an earlier Corsair is used and suitably modified. There is a small resin part for the headrest and a template for the control stick provided in this set. Use of both are shown in the video so that the viewer can duplicate what has been done.

Overall, this is an outstanding piece of work that is well worth the price of admission. I can pretty well guarantee that you will learn from this one, it is that good. It receives my highest recommendation and once you view it you will agree.
