Notes: DVD. 120 minutes

While many of us go through our normal and relatively mundane lives, there are those whose life is just one exciting adventure after another. Such is the life of Dick Becker, as well known for flying Cook Cleland's F2G Super Corsairs during the Thompson Trophy races from 1946-49 as anything.

This particular DVD is two hours of stories and recollections from one of the more fascinating personalities in Air Racing. Conducted in 2006, Dick takes us through his early love of aircraft to his enlistment in the Navy and pilot training as an enlisted pilot. Then his commission and work with trials aircraft at both Anacostia and Patuxent River during WWII, where he flew a surprising collection of aircraft. It also goes into his service in China post war before leaving the service to fly air racers.

This covers a goodly section of the interview sequence and it is here that we learn about some of the personalities involved in the air racing circuit. Through out all of this are some truly interesting stories of success and some goofs. Imagine having to land a PBM against the wind because the river current is so strong that to do otherwise would be near disaster. Or landing a freshly refurbished F2G with the wheels up. It is all here and more.

In all, it is a truly engrossing DVD that once you get into it, you wish would never end. It is really that good. Most highly recommended to aviation enthusiasts everywhere.
