This next DVD from Compendium Films is on Accurate Model Aircraft Detailing and highlights the work of Angus Creighton.

Angus takes us through several aspects of detailing aircraft models, and while it is naturally not all-encompassing, it certainly does provide information on doing a number of things to liven up what already comes in the box. Unlike some other 'how to' videos, this one pretty well keeps things in the box, with the addition of common materials (like plastic card), to provide some of these enhancements.

Things that are covered are; making separate slats when the kit doesn't provide that option; detailing landing gear by adding wire and carving detail; adding various types of antennas, including DF loops and long wires; scribing panel lines; adding lost detail with a template; and adding in proper wing tip position lights. There is an additional section that covers some more techniques that don't smoothly flow into the main feature.

The author has a pleasant voice and though he tends to talk a bit fast at first, has slowed down some once the video gets underway. There are some specialist tools that he uses which may require some searching. He also makes use of 3 amp fuse wire, something not generally available in the US, so this may be a bit of a problem for some modelers. There are other materials that are pretty much UK based so one does have to take this into consideration when trying to duplicate some things. However, with international trade being what it is, if you want the item you can probably get it.

Overall, it is an excellent 'how-to' video that clearly shows how it all goes together. It has a lot of repeat watching value, something that I know is important when learning.  I'm positive you will pick up on something, regardless of how experienced you are.
