It isn't very often than one gets to read a very good CD. This is one of them. Folks may look in askance about the validity of a book on a CD. However, this is as much a picture book as anything else and the way it has been presented makes it perfect for this medium. So what is in the CD?
Well, this is not a history of the B-36, though some of that is in there for background information. This is the story of the last B-36 produced and the efforts of dedicated groups of people in the Fort Worth/Dallas area to ensure that it is saved for posterity. This is one of only four B-36s left and being the last one built, it holds a special place in the hearts of those who built it, flew it, maintained it, and those who wish to save it from destruction.
To give some stats on the CD, there are over 400 very crisp, clear images, and two sound recordings of the B-36. All of the work that has gone into trying to preserve this aircraft has been documented on film and those images are included in the CD. The addition of those photographs adds immensely to the telling of what is a fascinating and on-going tale of the work that has gone into trying to save this particular aircraft. I can tell you that I found the story absolutely riveting. The ups and downs of the efforts to preserve this aircraft make for fascinating reading. Think about it. You have a plane of this size; you need to move it and you can't fly it out. How are you going to do it? Everything about this undertaking is bigger than life and faithfully recorded on this CD.
Moving Day for the Wing
If you have an interest in the B-36 or just want to read a fascinating story on what it takes to try to preserve an aircraft like this, then this is for you. Modelers will find the many close-up images as well as a dedicated modeling section of interest when they get ready to build their next B-36. With the issue of the Hobbycraft Peacemakers, it is fortuitous timing!
Highly recommended to both modelers and aviation historians.
