This is edition four of 'On Target Profiles', a series that is just what the title says, a book full of color profiles and four views. However, it is much more than a simple profiles book as each profile has a full write-up on the aircraft's unit, pilot (when known), color scheme, coding and serial sizes and placement, insignia type and size as well as any interesting bits of information on the aircraft or camo scheme.

It covers a variety of Spitfire marks from I to VI and their use in the European Theater of Operations throughout the war. Each page has four aircraft profiles such as are shown on the front cover. There are also four views, also in full color for each type and basic scheme. The book runs with a series of profiles on one side of the page and a four-view on the opposite page.

These profiles are superbly drawn by Jon Freeman and you will have seen his work in a number of enthusiast model magazines. Though not included in the book (and a pity in this reviewer's opinion) a series of decal sheets from each book is available from the publisher at the link provided below. If the publisher is amenable, perhaps they'll send a review copy or two (1/72 please). :o)

This is, in my opinion, a truly excellent publication, and not only for the modeler, but also for the aviation enthusiast. I know that it is one that will be used as a reference time and time again. Most highly recommended.
