Always nice to see a new publisher on the market and this time it is Aviaeology/Skygrid that has a new book titled 'Canadian Aircraft of WWII'. Now I know that some will raise eyebrows on this wondering just what this might mean. Well, the author is careful to note that this is more on aircraft flown by Canadian units and crews than actual built in Canada planes, though there are a number of those included in the book as well.

These aircraft were chosen because the author likes them and thought that information on these types would be of interest to readers and he was correct, at least as far as this reviewer is concerned. What follows in the pages is a very well balanced look at various types of aircraft, their development history (especially those built in Canada during the war), and their war record with Canadian units. Each entry consists of period photos of the planes in question (some in color) as well as at least two full page color profiles of these planes. Since the book is in 8.5 x 11 inch landscape format, these profiles are quite large. It also makes it possible to put in large photos without crossing the dreaded 'trench' in the middle of the book.

The aircraft covered are quite varied from the Bolingbroke, to the Delta, to the Fox Moth, to the Fort. It also includes types like the Liberator, Spitfire, Hurricane, Sunderland, Hudson, Stranreaer, and the Beaufighter as well as many others within its 72 pages. Each entry is a delight to read and with the superb selection of photos and the profiles is a book that you will truly enjoy reading. It is a great reference as well.

It is a great start to what is hoped to be a continuing series and one that I can quite easily recommend to you.
