NOTES: | Polish/English text, 48 pages |
Continuing with the Model Detail Photo Monograph series is this one on the P-47D Thunderbolt. This one differs from the others I've recently reviewed in that it is much larger, taking 48 pages as compared to the 32 pages of the previous editions. Of course, with there being a lot more extant P-47s to photograph, that is undoubtedly the reason for the additional pages.
The format is pretty much the same. Inside cover has general specs with a short history on the next few pages. This is then followed by a huge number of photos of the detail parts of extant airframes. Added to this are images taken from various period technical manuals, which really add a lot to the book as often photos are unable to show all the details.
The book is dual language Polish and English with a combination of color and black & white photos to illustrate the various parts of the airframe. These are, for the most part, late model block 40 Thunderbolts so if one is modeling an earlier version, one needs to keep in mind that some of the features shown won't be present. Regardless, it is an excellent reference book for the modeler and for those who are interested in the details of the P-47. It is a book I can recommend, especially as it is most reasonably priced.
