This particular volume is on the superlative SPAD VII, probably one of the finest French designs of WWI. Though not particularly maneuverable when compared to some of the Nieuports, the SPAD VII was a robust design that could take quite a bit of damage and bring the pilot back. Thanks to this over-engineered airframe, the aircraft was capable of rather high diving speeds that would have torn the wings from lesser aircraft. It was also powered by an honest to goodness liquid cooled V-8 engine. This again when many aircraft were powered by oil-slinging rotaries.

In line with other 4+ publications, this provides all that a modeler will need in terms of a reference. The author has provided a good history, followed by technical data. At the end of the book are color information as well as armament and equipment info. The book itself is in English and this one has a Czech insert with the aforementioned information in Czech. This insert includes additional photos and profiles.

Within its 36 pages are an abundance of period photos of various SPAD VIIs from a number of sources. These photos are well reproduced and worth the price of the book alone. But we also get some high quality plans in 1/48 showing all the different variants of the SPAD VII, including what seem to be a myriad of different cowling applications in terms of vents, shutters and louvers!

A number of superbly done profiles are included as are color photos of many of the extant airframes from museums around the world. The close-up sections include both museum and period photographs, making for a most well-rounded edition.

Overall, this is a superb book that is both an interesting read and a great reference. One that I can recommend to you without reservation. Your local stockist or hobby shop should be able to order this for you
