NOTES: | Vinyl Mask Set |
An accessory that has been growing in popularity over the years are vinyl mask sets. Mostly they were used for canopy masks and have become very popular. Another use for these have been for camouflage masks.
This set from Top Notch is for the later P-40E-N types that served with the RAF and Commonwealth air forces. Now not all planes were in this pattern and most P-40Ns were in the standard USAAF scheme, but not all of them. These schemes were factory applied using painting mats so there would be almost no overspray unless it was a field 'patch'. Though the instructions show the grey/green colors, this scheme applies to the desert camouflage scheme as well. Note also that several camouflaged planes were kept by the USAAF for use in North Africa and some were sent to the SWPA. The set provides masks for the lower color demarcation line as well. One paints the lower section, then applies those masks, paints the upper Earth shade before applying the other. The set includes two sheets and I've not shown them as they will simply look like grey-green rectangles.
These are available in all major scales with this set being in 1/48.
