KC-CON '05

By Kevin Powers

The show was held on march 5th of this year.  The invitational was held in the Kansas City Expo, a large well lit venue.
Directions there was quite easy, with ample parking.  When I arrived, there was no waiting at the registration table.
Fees was 10.00 for unlimited kits, which is very very do-able for most people with much more money to spend on other goodies.  The vendor room was separate from the contest room which made for less crowding and shall I say, "more breathable" atmosphere.

There were about 10-12 different vendor tables with some really outrageous deals to be had.  I know, I found some.  The contest room was well lit with plenty of room between the tables so brawny guys like myself would have no problem navigating through.
Most categories had at least 3 or more entries with some, like a/c and armor just totally jammed to the gills with models. Some categories were later on subdivided.

The raffle was done as A/C kits and other subjects.  Being done every 1/2 hr after 1 pm, you didn't have to wait long before new numbers were being drawn.  It was done over a PA system, so, if you were outside during a drawing, you could hear your #'s being called.   The "raffle-teer" as I called the ticket drawer, would draw a number and hold up 3 different items that you could pick one from, which I thought was different than the other drawings I have witnessed.  If you weren't present, they would select for you one of the items and put your winning ticket on it and set it aside.

If you were hungry or thirsty, there was a cafeteria near by in the building you could buy burgers or fries etc..  The cost was somewhat reasonable.
The awards program went on schedule without any glitches, and had a nice power point presentation the first place winners and best 'of's', which I had the honor of appearing on twice.  The show ended on time, and I was down the road a few minutes ahead of plan.   I would recommend this show for all in the tri-state area.
