When fitted on Portuguese Alpha Jets, the Chaff / Flare dispenser goes under the tail section.
The black fairing holds an antenna from the israeli-made SPS 1000 Radar Warning Receiver.

- F-16AM

Like the Norwegian and Greek, the Dutch F-16s also use the large base of the fin to house a parachute.
The antennas on both sides of the housing are part of the ECM system.

- F-16AM

On the Belgian F-16s this large base houses part of the CARAPACE ECM system.

Belgian F-16s were to be equipped with the Loral RAPORT III internal Electronic Countermeasures suite, designed to be compatible with the RAPORT II equipment still carried by the Belgian Mirage 5BA and R fighters.
However the RAPORT III programme was canceled, and the Dassault Carapace ECM system was selected.
As it took sometime to develope and install the system, this space was used in the mean time to carry a travel pod.
