“Wild Weasel”. The name automatically invokes images of the dangerous game of hunting & killing radar installations. For those in the know, two aircraft are certain to come to mind, the F-4G, & the one this sheet is about, the Republic F-105G Thunderchief.
The instructions sheet is the standard Aeromaster offering, having full color left side profile drawings of each a/c & a generic overhead view for painting & decal positioning. The Monogram F-105G kit is the kit of choice.
The decals sheet is on the small side compared to many other Aeromaster jet sheets, but these a/c were not overly marked. There is very little maintenance data provided. The “WW” tail code & serial number are a one-piece decal. The TAC badge decal is provided as a single or 2-piece decal. Interestingly, instrument panel decals are provided, but the kit panels are more than adequate after they have been painted. Both aircraft are in the SEA camo scheme.
Both a/c are from the same wing, and very small differences do exist between these two a/c. A/c # 332 used the wing badge with the dark blue background with the yellow glove, while a/c # 307 uses the badge decal with the light blue background & white glove. The tail code on 307 is slightly larger & wider than on 332. Of course, the most obvious difference is the different style sharks (weasels?) mouth on each a/c.
The 35th continued its “Wild Weasel” ways when it transitioned to the F-4G in 1978. The wing once again saw combat during Desert Storm, & were deactivated in 1993.
Please note that the sheet may look a bit short as I'll often crop off common markings to save on server space.
