I first heard about Eric "Winkle" Brown while I was in London. The story of this guy is quite interesting to say the least, with a world record of having flown 487 types of aircraft, having made 2407 carrier takeoffs and 2271 carrier landings. He also flew every type of aircraft in the RAF and RA/FAA inventory, from gliders to helicopters.

After WWII, he managed to test a lot of captured German aircraft, the Fw 200, He 177 and the Ta 152H-1 being among them.

In 176 pages, each one of them with at least one black and white picture of the aircraft in question, Eric Brown tells how he found the aircraft, how he flew it, the steps he had to go through to start the engines, takeoff and land.

The aircraft covered by the book are the Fw 200C, He 162, Ju 87, Do 217, He 177, Me 262, Do 335, Fw 190, Ar 234B, Ju 88, Fw 189, He 111, Ju 52/3M, He 219, Bf 109G, Bf 110 and Me 163.

This book is highly recommended not only for Lufwaffe fans, but also for those who would like to read about one of the most remarkable persons in aviation.
