Waffen Arsenal Special #27

REVIEW BY:

Ian Sadler

The book under review is the new title from Waffen Arsenal Special no 27, published by Alle Rechte, aun die des auszugsweisen Nachdrucks, biem podzun -Pallas -Verlag Gmbh, Kohlhauserstr, 8, 61200 Wolfersheim Berstadt, and Germany. Year 2000 Isbn no 3-7909- 0699-9. Price at time of publication was 24 Dm, check with your local importer or book dealer. Published in A4 portrait formats on very high quality gloss paper and has German text only.

The title is roughly RSO Raupenschlepper OST. It has in its slim 48 pages 92 black and white photographs of varying quality, note not all are taken by offical photographers and some are definitely snapshots taken by troops. Some are of fully restored vehicles in museums and private ownership. Even one recovered in 1999.

It covers all the RSO types, even the most obscure Swimmwagen, Half-track and semi articulated with double cargo sections. The only ones it does not cover are some of the experimental ones mounting the 150mm field gun firing over the cut down cab.

It is a pity that it had not been available for Italeri to use as reference for the RSO kits they produce. It now clears up all the internal details like shape and position of seats and engine covers that Italeri got wrong or simplified. You can now safely buy the kits and by using the photographs from the book correct them with confidence that yours will be right. If the RSO is the kit for you then you cannot afford not to have this book on your reference self. Buy it now before it is too late.

Highly recommend and well worth the price.
