Russian Text |
Published on very good quality gloss paper and in A4 portrait format, it has in its 62 pages 81 original wartime photographs and 84 stunning colour illustrations of the vehicles. Both Russian and captured German tanks and Lease Lend equipment.
The value of books like this are in the good quality original photographs and colours illustrations. The negative side is it is not published in English.
The subjects covered are light tanks, medium tanks and heavy ones with a few on B vehicle and captured equipment. The real strength and power of the book is in the actual wartime photographs. These to model makers and diorama builders are invaluable as reference material.
The colour illustration once more exploded the myth that all Russian Tanks and equipment was painted Russian Green.
Two photographs stand out for me, the one at the bottom of page 27, which shows a T34 with mine roller attached. Now I know what the mistakes are in the kit and the important central axle that is missing and the correct mine roller spacing.
The second is again at the bottom of page 55 and shows a close up of the IS-2 cupola and the torched cutting on the moulding pouring points, something that all model makers miss in their Is-2 tanks.
In conclusion yet once again a book that needs to be published in English. However do not be put off, if WW2 Russian is your part of the hobby then it will fill a gap in the information about that period.
I know I will be using it time and time again for ideas and checking details for my tanks etc. It deserves a place on any armour model makers reference self.
Go out and buy it now, as it is limited like nearly all these books to a print runs of 3000 worldwide.
