NOTES:

Written in Russian

The books under review are a new series to me; Russian Motor Books published in Russia and once again I can give no other details as it is all in Russian. Price is $2-95 available from www.armybooks.com

Printed in an A4 portrait format and on very good quality paper with 16 pages full of good quality black and white photographs and scale drawings in 1/35 and 1/72 and also line drawings taken from original workshop manuals.

A word about the scale drawings in their advertising they list each volume as having scale drawings in both scales, this unfortunately is not the case. I have listed along side each volume if it has scale drawings and to what scale.

To illustrate what you get for your $2-95 plus P&P from Avia Press I have listed the following details from Volume no 6 Zil 151/ 157GS truck.

The information is a typical of all the volumes in this series.

Black and white photographs of the original vehicle, scale plans and usually drawings of the ladder frame and construction. All the sketches are taken from the original workshop manuals and are to a very high standard. These include engine layout, gearbox aand differentials etc. Internal details of the cab and instruments. The way the GS body is constructed and mounted on the frame. Even down to the tools carried and their location on the vehicle.

For those that have only one scale then all the external measurements are included so it is possible to scale up correctly and more importantly check details of the accuracy of a kit.

With all the new kits of B vehicles now coming on to the market esp from Russia and in both 1/72 and 1/35 scales, these books are going to prove invaluable to model makers and scratch builders.

I have only the usual comment about the information being printed in Russian as this does spoil the books, however I recommend them highly for the information they do contain. I always say " Plans, Drawings, and Photographs are International and need no translation".

Highly recommended to all those who like all things Russian.
