NOTES: |
The Three vehicles used to illustrate the close up detail of the Horch 1a and type 40 are from Vladimir Lehar's collection in Zvole, Czech Republic and the other type 40's from the Pavel Petrus's collection Innsbruck, Austria. It is pointed out in the captions that to conform to modern road laws pertaining in those countries certain items are neither original nor standard.
In its 60 pages there are the following, 96 colour photographs, one set of black and white drawings of the chassis and 138 black and white photographs.
It starts with a brief history of the vehicle manufacturers and how you can have different engines in the types for example it is possible to find a Ford 3.6 V8 installed you live and learn.
Spit into the usual walk around of both types and engine details, body internals and external, canvas hoods up and down, chassis and steering linkages the list is endless.
Each is treated as a photomontage of unimaginable detail from the restoration projects of the vehicles. Each section is a wonder to behold; all the detail is laid bare for all to see.
If I had to select a section for model makers and scratch builders it has to be the engine bays with and without the engines. This is the real beauty of these books in that you have all the relevant detail at your fingertips and laid out in a logical manner. They for me make the book all the rest is a bonus.
I can see the etch brass and resin makers having a field day with the information now fully detailed and available in this book.
For any model maker if you see the kit for sale grab it use this book to turn it into a winner and for those lucky enough to be able to find and restore the Horch 1 to 1 scale this book is a dream.
It adds an other book to the reference section on German WW2 vehicles, which I know personally, will be used many times in the future. Once more the authors are to be congratulated on filling a gap in our information about this neglected vehicle.
Highly recommended to model makers, Military vehicle restorers and Military Museums lucky enough to have one waiting for restoration.
