With
an impressive front cover picture which give well justice to the mighty and
legendary Tomcat from Grumman, star of the Top Gun movie, DACO signs with this
third title a superb work, I could say really THE photographic monument on an
airplane which start to quit the scene of the USN and carrier deck. Although it
had already been treated since here beginning in service, this is the more
completed approach regarding details published to this day, as no areas will be
left aside. According to a proven method, one will start with an external
walkaround followed by the interiors of the beast with a return on some zones
uncovered during repair stages and not very visible habitually. In the order
you’ll discover the radome, the radar, the access ladders, the probes and
vents, the refuelling probe, the canopy, the air intakes, the missiles rails,
the top fuselage (really dirty), the spoilers, vertical tail and stabs, the
airbrakes (opened and closed), the two motorization types, the tanks, the engine
panels. The interior of the cockpits contains 148 photos on 33 pages, (with and
without seats, to see the invisible areas). And one continues joyously with the
gears and their bays, the catapulting system, the folding wing system, the
engine nacelles and avionics bays. Still remain the armament with the M61A1canon
and the whole panoply of missiles and other charges. Some views in operations,
in flight and in action on the decks break this mass of details. To finish, very
good 1/72 and 1/48 scale drawings are inserted, with the details of each type
pointed on dashboards and consoles. You can buy this book with your eyes closed,
you’ll not regret it .
