Osprey Publishing is noted for its extensive coverage of all eras of human endeavor. From ancient times to the latest battlefields, Osprey has coved each extensively yet somehow manages to produce new titles every year. This book is a compilation of no fewer than 18 previous titles in various Osprey series.

Most people have heard of Alexander of Macedonia, also known as Alexander the Great. Much of his life is wrapped in mythos and only a few of his campaigns are well known. This book puts the life and times of Alexander in clearer perspective. While this book concentrates on his military campaigns, it does delve somewhat into his personal life to give you an idea of the kind of man he was. From his earliest battles to the long trip home that eventually resulted in his untimely death at 33; the important events of his life are covered in much detail. Along the way we learn of the makeup and tactics of Alexander’s forces and those of his various enemies.

This book is recommended to the historian and the modeler. Be warned though, it is not light reading for those only mildly curious about Alexander and his times. Those who do get into the book, will find that it provides all you would ever want to know about one of the key figures of history. It is a book that is well written and historically accurate. A book that I am sure you will enjoy.
