NOTES:

Over 40 Profiles

A very good aircraft profile artist friend of mine has been known to declare (late at night, when he's tired and his defenses are down) that "Tullis is God." If any of you doubt that Thomas A. Tullis is one of the leading aircraft profile artists currently working, this book will end that doubt.

Printed in softcover by Eagle Editions, Ltd., Tullis' book presents some excellent profiles of better-known individual aircraft of the better-known fighters of the Second World War: the P-51 Mustang, Fw-190 series, F4U Corsair, Bf-109 series, the Me-262, the early P-40, Spitfire and Wildcat. Many of these have been seen previously by modelers in profiles for Cutting Edge and Eagle Editions decals, but not in this size or in this printing quality. There is one caveat: the aircraft are painted as they "should have been." This means that some, like the Flying Tiger P-40s - a far more motley bunch as far as paint schemes are concerned than ever suspected until the past couple of years - might not be entirely accurate. However, only the terminally-AMSed would really worry about this issue if they used any of these profiles as painting guides for a model. This reviewer would have no trouble using these as both guides and goals for my airbrushing to aspire to.

According to the author, there will be more of these volumes coming in the future on other different aircraft, including an entire volume dedicated to the AVG's P-40s. (One could only wish there was a model of the P-40C worthy of putting this information to work on.) I will look forward to adding all of them to my research library. Overall, this book represents excellent quality for the money and is highly recommended.
