This is the first volume in a series on the six-day war between Israel and surrounding Arab nations. It basically covers the build-up to the war as well as the opening strikes. In the years after the 1956 Suez war, it became obvious to the Israelis that they needed to up their game. As such the military was able to upgrade its military within the constrains of their extant budget.

Israel also was able to hone its tactics in the various smaller conflicts they instigated against neighboring Arab states, particularly in the water war with Syria. Meanwhile Arab forces also upgraded their military, but not to the extent of the Israelis. Egypt in particular was embroiled in a war in Yemen that sapped away a fair amount of their military might. In fact, Nasser did not want a conflict with Israel as he knew the outcome would not be favorable. Iraq, Syria, and Jordan felt pretty much the same way about the situation.

However, Israel felt it would do well and so planned for a pre-emptive strike at several levels. As mentioned, its aggression in the years since 1956 provided an idea of how well its military would react. Planning was based on this first strike scenario with the IDF/AF attacking Egyptian air fields and air defense systems, allowing Israel to have air superiority during the war. It was hoped that the Egyptians would be caught unawares. That is exactly what happened and that is where this first volume ends.

Typical of the series, the research is superb, allowing information not previously documented to come forth. In addition, the book provides great period photographs, excellent maps, and the usual full color profiles and illustrations in the center section of the book. Well worth reading and one I can recommend to you.
